Gryphon Ibizans imported the foundation “wire-coated” Ibizans from Palma de Mallorca, Spain in 1983 from the kennel of “Paco” Ruiz, the president of the Spanish Ibizan Hound Club. Gryphon Ibizans has established this variety from non-existence in North America to the #1 Ibizan and BOB at Westminster, and three Ibizan Hound Club of the US National Ibizan Specialty winners. Susan studied genetics at university while becoming a Medical Technologist and developed an eye for balance and form earning art degrees in painting and printmaking. (see link to Artwork) Gryphon Ibizans has produced over sixty AKC and CKC Champions, plus several world champions, Danish, and Finish Champions. Gryphon Ibizans traded Ibizan pups with the Frontrunner Kennel of Denmark that was founded on the best of the Rosenhill Kennel of Norway and Spanish Ibizans imported to Germany.
Gryphon Ibizans strives for healthy, functional, and balanced Ibizans by keeping a diverse gene pool.
Gryphon Ibizans also excel on the coursing field with multiple Best in Field and dual champion Ibizans. A Gryphon Ibizan was the first and only wire Ibizan to win Best in Field at the international Invitational Lure Course. Mel Clark has top ranked Gryphon Ibizans in agility and obedience. Susan Fegan as a member of the Ibizan Hound Club of US from 1985 to 2006 and as breed mentor has conducted numerous AKC judges education seminars on Ibizans and taken part in a round table discussion in Norway at their national specialty. She joined other sight hound breeders in Victoria, Canada for a week end symposium demonstrating the similarities and differences of Ibizans to other sight hounds with slides and lure coursing demonstrations. Susan attended the grand hunt on Mallorca, observing Ibizan hounds in action and two Ibizan Fairs in Spain. Her photos and articles of these events have been published in several hound magazines and books.
The vision of Gryphon Ibizans is to maintain healthy, functional, and elegant Ibizan hounds and to help mentor new owners as guardians of the breed in the future.
