So, our lifelong endeavor of crossing into the next millenium has been finally met. With all the Y2K hype and terrorist threats, it's a relief to survive unscathed, to witness the passing of yet another day.
In passing, I've learned to become more appreciative of life. We wait in anticipation for big events, we worry and fret and panic about unexpected fears. And yet, we live, day to day, going through routines and adjusting to life's changes.
I've become more appreciative of the present moment. I treasure the past, and am amazed how quickly the time flies as the "future" catches up and whizzes past into history left behind. No more 1900's. No more looking forward to the turn of the millenium--it's all past.
Right now we have something much better--the present. The present is what we can have and hold and cherish each moment of our life. Right now is the time to reach out to our loved ones and to help a stranger in need. Right now is the time to make the memories we will later treasure. Right now is the time to do what it is we call life. The present is what matters.
What happened in 1999 can't be changed. What will happen in 2000 won't be known until we pass through each moment. But what happens NOW is what matters. Happy New Year! Enjoy the present.
Beth
