What can you do?

Friendship House welcomes donations of clothing, small household appliances, bedding, towels, dishes, flatware, and furniture to help low-income families in need to set up apartments and get started again. Our storage is limited so please contact us ahead of time to see what we have space to store. Please feel free to contact us by e-mail or by phone if you have questions about items you wish to donate.

Friendship House is dependent upon donations from the public. We are not a government-sponsored agency. We are a 501(c) 3 non-profit agency. There are several ways in which you may help:

  1. Friendship House 1000 - those wishing to pledge a regular monthly or annual amount may join this program. We send monthly and annual receipts and a return envelope for your next donation.
  2. Memorials - those wishing to donate a benevolence in memory of someone may do so indicating who to notify of the gift. A card is sent notifying family of the gift.
  3. One-time Gifts - we are often in need of funding for specific programs or items. One-time gifts are accepted for specific programs or equipment. Current needs are for emergency exit lights for both houses ($2500); funding to start our transitional housing program; and funding for our counseling program that includes parenting skills, and interpersonal relationships ($5,000 annually).  We would like to expand this program to include a group at the Men's house as well (additional $5,000). Gifts towards these projects will be tracked separately until projects are completed.
  4. Donation of Stocks or Bonds - we can assist you in the transfer of stocks and bonds. One donor said she chose to do this because "both Friendship House and I could come out a little ahead instead of just writing a check." When you give a stock gift, you can write off the amount for the entire value of the stock as a charitable donation. You also do not have to pay capital gains tax for however much that stock has grown over the past year.
  5. Combined Federal Campaign - if you work for the federal government in Skagit or Whatcom Counties you can elect to have a payroll deduction that will be sent as a donation to Friendship House.
  6. Washington State Campaign - state employees are also able to request a payroll deduction that will provide a donation to Friendship House.
  7. Retailers/Wholesalers - we will accept donations of over stocked or imperfect product for use in the house or to help furnish homes for guests moving out on their own. We are interested in clothing, appliances, paint, carpeting, tools, food items, household items, etc.
