"The Silken Windhound, is a recently developed, rare breed, the result of a long-awaited dream to fill the niche in the Sighthound breeds with a smaller, long-haired hound.  In appearance, the Silkens pay tribute to those champion foundation dogs from the breeds from which they evolved, yet they are unique among the Sighthound breeds.  They are purebred dogs with an Official Breed Standard that outlines the "ideal" dog.

The International Silken Windhound Society (ISWS) is deeply committed and dedicated to the goal of gaining AKC recognition for these fascinating and delightful little hounds."

Claire is a wonderful girl. Charming in the extreme, she instantly impresses all who meet her. I have yet had anyone who has seen her not think she is most beautiful and immediately want to pet her. I am totally smitten myself so I have a tendency to gush about Claire and the Silken breed to anyone who shows the least bit of interest.
After watching this breed develop from the early years with Col. Walter Wheeler and his "Silken Windsprites" (Whippet x Sheltie). To the interest of Francie Stull who took over the reins of the breed in the mid 1980's. I have always thought this was a perfect breed to fill a gap in the Sighthound family.
Francie has done a marvelous job of including Borzoi into the mix and stamping a breed type. She also has brought many avid Silken fanciers together to work for the betterment of the breed. Insisting on a high standard for any who might want to breed. DNA record keeping of the dogs and Health test's are the norm. Puppies are sold on a "limited registration" until a evaluation of quality by an Approved Evaluator is made at closer to 1 yr of age. Only at that time is a dogs registration changed from Limited to Full registration and breeding rights given.

My thanks to Alison for allowing Claire to come and join my family. She has won my heart.

At 4 1/2 months I took Claire to a Seattle WA  ISWS specialty.
They allow young (4 to 6 mo) pups to entered in a baby puppy class but they are not eligible for the points.
Our judge Whippet breeder Mary Downing  was so taken with the darling (and mannerly) Claire she gave her the "Best Puppy in Specialty" award. Quite a start for our little girl.

Keep a watch on Claires page she has a bright future.
