| Llamas are a wonderful addition to any farm. They are
the most unique animals, all with very special personalities.
People often ask "do they spit?", yes they do but usually only at eachother. It is their way of saying back-off. If a llama spits at a human it is probably because of being abused by a human or the animal is unhappy or uncomfortable about something and the human needs to figure out why. Halter fit is so very important with the llama. Sometimes a poor fitting halter will make a llama very irritable and once changed you have a happy llama. These types of little things are what can really make a huge difference. Learning to listen to our animals is one of the most important things we as animal caretakers can do. You can raise 2 llamas on an acre of land quite comfortably. They are grazers so in the summer time a nice pasture is all they need. Some water, and mineral salts and they are happy campers. In the winter they require good grass hay, water and mineral salts. Llamas are herd animals belonging to the camelid family. They must always be kept with another animal preferably one of their own kind. |
